Abstract

Cardiac arrest in the hospital is the worst event of a patient's condition deteriorating, this is also related to the early detection system. One intervention that can be done to prevent delays in early detection is by implementing an early warning system (EWS) score. The aim of implementing EWS is to assess patients with acute conditions, detect early deterioration in the patient's clinical condition while being treated in hospital. This case study aims to obtain an overview of the management of the application of the early warning score in patients at risk of cardiac arrest in the ICU. This case study design is based on EBP (Evidence based practice) which is a strategy to obtain the latest knowledge based on clear and relevant evidence or evidence to make effective clinical decisions. This type of research is a descriptive case study using 2 case study subjects who have cardiovascular disease, have bedside monitors installed and are at risk of cardiac arrest. Based on the results of research that was carried out for 3 days in the ICU room at RSI Kendal, the results of the application of EWS showed that respondent 1 experienced an improvement in his condition with a final EWS score of 3 and respondent 2 experienced a worsening condition with a final score of 11. The relationship between EWS monitoring and the risk of cardiac arrest has strong relationship as an early detection of patient deterioration in the care unit installation.
