Abstract

Emesis gravidarum or often called morning suffering is nausea and dizziness that occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy (0-12 weeks), where nausea and vomiting do not only occur in the morning but can occur at any time, tending to be at night, in the afternoon or at any time. Management of emesis gravidarum is divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Non-pharmacological treatment to overcome emesis gravidarum for example by giving ginger wedang. Ginger can be useful for treating nausea and vomiting and a variety of medical conditions. This study uses contextual analysis based on EBP (Evidence Based Practice) to explore the problem of managing emesis gravidarum in first trimester pregnant women and to determine the effectiveness of ginger wedang to treat emesis gravidarum. Respondents were observed for 4 days with daily visits. The results from before giving ginger wedang the frequency of nausea and vomiting was 6 times a day and after the implementation of giving ginger wedang there was a decrease to 2-3 times a day. The content of zingerones and shogaols compounds that give anti-vomiting effect. And there are enzymes in ginger that can cause nausea because enzymes catalyze proteins in the digestive system. In conclusion, giving ginger wedang to pregnant women in the 1st trimester can reduce the frequency of emesis gravidarum.
