Abstract

Babies are children aged 0-12 months. Infancy is the critical first month of life because the baby will experience adaptation to the environment). Babies with low birth weight will experience hypothermia because subcutaneous fat is very thin so it is easily influenced by environmental temperature. In hospitals, LBW treatment with incubators is limited in number and requires high costs. In addition, the incidence of nosocomial infections in LBW treated in hospital is quite high. So we need a practical method as an alternative to incubators that is economically efficient and effective. Developing countries are strongly encouraged to adopt the kangaroo method. The aim of writing this scientific work is to study the understanding of the application of the kangaroo method to the stability of body temperature in LBW babies. This case study method is based on EBP (Evidence Based Practice) to explore the instability of body temperature in LBW babies and to understand child nursing care with the influence of the kangaroo method to stabilize the body temperature of LBW babies. For client 1, the results of the baby's body temperature on the first day were 35.6 C to 35.9 on the second day, 35.8 C to 36.7 C. Meanwhile, for client 2, the results of the baby's body temperature on the first day were 35.8 C to 36.0 C on the second day, 36. 0C becomes 36.8 C, continuously by contact between the mother's skin and the baby's skin. From the research that has been carried out, it means that the kangaroo method is a method that is easy to apply in the environment and has a significant effect in helping stabilize the body temperature of babies who are LBW.
