Abstract

Hypertension is a condition characterized by a persistent increase in blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg across multiple measurements, caused by one or more risk factors that impair the body’s ability to maintain normal blood pressure. One non-pharmacological treatment that can be applied is foot massage therapy, a sensory integration technique that affects the autonomic nervous system and may help lower blood pressure. The purpose of this case study is to determine the effect of foot massage therapy on reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This study employed an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach with a case study design, focusing on the administration of foot massage therapy for 20 minutes per day over three consecutive days. Data were collected by measuring vital signs before and after the therapy. The results showed that in the first subject, blood pressure decreased from 189/102 mmHg to 150/78 mmHg, while in the second subject, it decreased from 176/105 mmHg to 143/82 mmHg by the third day. These findings indicate that foot massage therapy may have a beneficial effect in lowering blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.
