Abstract

Laparotomy is a major surgery performed on the layers of the abdominal wall. The effect of surgery is pain. Pain is a stressor that causes tension in the form of physical and psychological responses in individuals. Aromatherapy is a nonpharmacological action to reduce pain. One aromatherapy that can be used is lemon aromatherapy which contains linalool which is useful for stabilizing the nervous system and providing a calming effect. This case study method is based on EBP (Evidence Based Practice) to explore the intensity of pain in postoperative laparotomy patients with a focus on the intervention of providing lemon aromatherapy. The method used is descriptive with a study subject approach using data collection methods through interviews, observation, physical examination and documentation studies. . The data collection instrument used a medical-surgical nursing assessment format and lemon aromatherapy. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively to describe changes in pain scale, facial expression, pain intensity, blood pressure and pulse frequency. The results of the study showed a reduction in pain in both study subjects. Study subject I experienced a decrease in the pain scale from 6 to 2, the intensity of the pain became mild, the facial expression looked calm, blood pressure was 110/70mmHg, pulse rate was 78x/minute. Meanwhile, in case II study subjects, there was a decrease in the pain scale from 4 to 0, facial expression looked calm, blood pressure was 110/80mmHg, pulse rate was 90x/minute. The conclusion of this research is that giving lemon aromatherapy can reduce pain in post-operative patients, so this research recommends that giving lemon aromatherapy can be applied to post-operative patients.
