Abstract

Uric acid is a result of purine metabolism in the body. This acid is usually released by the kidneys through urine under normal conditions. Uric acid is a type of arthritis or inflammation of the joints caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in synovial tissue and other tissues. One alternative therapy to reduce uric acid levels is bay leaf cooking water. The content contained in bay leaves are flavonoids that function to reduce levels of uric acid in the blood and help in the removal of uric acid through urine. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving bay leaf boiled water (Syzgium Poliyanthum) to decrease uric acid levels in gout sufferers. The method used in this review literature is data taken from several sources that are accurate and reliable in research that has been done with bay leaf boiled water therapy. This research is a literature review study, the authors use articles sourced from electronics on Google Scholar with the keyword uric acid, bay leaf. Data that has been obtained, reviewed, compared, systematically arranged and discussed. From several sources that have been obtained mention that the knowledge of gout, bay leaves is still lacking.
