Abstract

Preeclampsia is a condition of pregnant women with hypertension with blood pressure > 140/90 mmHg and proteinuria in the third trimester of pregnancy. The Kendal District Office noted that in 2018 there were 1.64% of preeclampsia cases. Treatment of preeclampsia can be in the form of pharmacological and nonpharmacological according to the level of preeclampsia experienced. One of the non-pharmacological efforts is the application of a low-salt diet and the provision of bananas. This case study uses the Quasi Experiment method (passive observation) in the form of Evidence Based Practice (EBP). The subjects used in this study are in accordance with the evidence related to the data of the problems discussed. Based on certain limitations and criteria to explore the management of a low salt diet and banana feeding. This case study research used preeclamptic mothers with 20 weeks gestation. The interventions carried out were education and management of a low salt diet and the provision of bananas. The results of the intervention proved that the administration of a low-salt diet and consumption of bananas could reduce diastolic blood pressure by 10 mmHg. This is in accordance with the evidence based used by researchers entitled "The Effectiveness of Bananas for Lowering Diastolic Blood Pressure in Pregnant Women with Hypertension", Bananas have a high potassium content of 500 mg in them which can help lower blood pressure, the results obtained are effective during 7 days in the form of a decrease in diastolic blood pressure of 9.27 mmHg. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of regulating diet and reducing salt consumption in their daily diet and consuming bananas with potassium in it can inhibit renin secretion which plays a role in lowering blood pressure and sodium excretion.
